  • It is recommended that students are given at least an hour to explore the three sections of Termite Trails. The sections are:
    • Meet the Termites (introduces students to the concept of termite as social insects; it also helps students to think about any misconceptions they might have about termites in the Termite Teasers).
    • Interdependence (focuses on the role of termites in ecosystems and their multiple role in food chains and food webs; students construct and reflect on food web understandings). At the end of the Food Webs in this part, it is recommended that students print out (right click on mouse and then press print) their responses to the statements about food webs.
    • Impacts (explores the threat of feral animals, weeds and fire on food webs using narratives; students use their understanding of food web and narrative case studies to construct simple food webs and the impact of these threats).
  • Further evidence of student learning of the food chain and web concepts will be demonstrated in the next phase Explain.

  • Teachers can use the Termite Trails site map document in right-hand column as a checklist to ensure that students have explored all the sections.
